The CSIR congratulates Dr Ghaneshree Moonsamy for being the first student at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) to have her Master’s degree converted into a doctoral degree.

Moonsamy (34), a senior researcher at the CSIR, made history when her thesis for a Master’s in biotechnology was converted into a PhD thesis because of its superior quality.

Recently adopted by the organisation, the strategy is aimed at amplifying the ‘I’ in ‘CSIR’, to intensify its focus on industrial development and a more aggressive quest for impact, in keeping with the organisation’s mandate to improve the quality of life of all the people of South Africa.

In a rigorous journey that unfolded over the past two years, the CSIR has worked with its stakeholders to define a new vision for itself, guiding how the organisation must fulfil its mandate in the context of South Africa’s current challenges.

Science and Technology Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane hereby announces and welcomes the new Board of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The CSIR, a world-class African research and development organisation, is an entity of the Department of Science and Technology.  It is responsible for multidisciplinary research and technological innovation to improve South Africans' quality of life.

The appointment of the Board was confirmed by Cabinet on Wednesday, 6 December 2018.

The CSIR will work with 3Sixty Global Solutions Group (3Sixty GSG) a subsidiary of NUMSA Investment Company (NIC), and Tautomer to fast-track the commercialisation of CSIR technologies.

The organisations entered into a tripartite agreement through NIC’s subsidiary 3Sixty GSG and their partner company, Tautomer, to explore any investment and collaboration opportunities at the CSIR.

The agreement was signed by CSIR Chief Executive Officer, Dr Thulani Dlamini, 3Sixty GSG Chief Executive Officer, Mr Khandani Msibi and Tautomer Managing Director, Mr Martin Magwaza, in Pretoria, on Wednesday, 15 January 2020.

The solar array consists of a total of 1 800 PV modules with a total surface of 3 493 m2.
