Simiyu holds a Master’s in energy system from the University of Pretoria. She joined the CSIR in 2022 and undertakes research in support of the Just Energy Transition.
Simiyu’s expertise lies in energy and social-economic options for the Just Energy Transition in South Africa; developing and incubating small, medium and micro enterprises in the energy sector; and developing strategic interventions for growing the South African energy industry, specifically in the renewable energy domain. She is also contributing to the development of the Mpumalanga Infrastructure Master Plan 2050 for the energy sector in the province.
