Research interests lie in sustainable smart pavement technology, fracture energy pavement damage prediction models using embedded sensors, sustainable innovative pavement materials and inclusive smart transportation systems.

Dr Abejide holds a Doctor of Engineering specialising in civil transportation engineering from the Central University of Technology in the Free State, South Africa. He joined the CSIR in October 2023 as a principal researcher in the CSIR Smart Mobility cluster. Prior to joining the CSIR, he worked as a senior lecturer in sustainable transportation at Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. His notable contributions include two inventions in pavement technology: the "Portable Recycled Asphalt Plastic Pavement Machine” and the “Plastic Asphalt Mix".
