To meet its mandate of improving the quality of life of South Africans, the CSIR relies on its most important asset, its people. This multidisciplinary science, engineering and technology base is made up of individuals who are highly specialised in their respective fields. They are geneticists, virologists, software developers, polymer chemists, applied mathematicians and industrial engineers, just to name a few.

Taljaar’s key competencies are in biogeochemical (water quality) characteristics and processes in coastal systems (including estuaries) and their responses to global change pressures and the development and application of coastal water quality.
Thambiran has a PhD from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, with key competencies in air quality and climate change.
Petzer’s areas of work and research include integrated development and spatial planning, urban futures, smart cities, urban policy development and analyses.
Mans has a background in geographical information sciences with a specific application in the context of urban and regional planning.
