A new initiative to drive socioeconomic development through public-private partnerships was launched in Limpopo, on 29 October 2019. The Impact Catalyst is an initiative founded by Anglo American, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Exxaro and World Vision South Africa to leverage collaboration across all sectors and magnify impact through collaboration.
The focus of the Limpopo development platform, the first regional socioeconomic development platform, is improving the health, wellbeing and living conditions of communities across Limpopo. Other areas of impact include economic development, education, social empowerment, service delivery and the environment.
“Limpopo is regarded as the ideal starting point for The Impact Catalyst,” says Charl Harding, CSIR Business Development Manager. “The Limpopo region is extremely vulnerable due to its high dependence on the mining sector,” adds Harding.
More than 80 guests from the provincial government of Limpopo, industry, media and the public sector attended the launch. These include Mr Andile Sangqu, Executive Head of Anglo American, Dr Thulani Dlamini, CSIR CEO, Mr Mxolisi Mgojo, Exxaro CEO and Mr Malcolm Boyd, World Vision South Africa Board Chairperson, who shared their testimonies.
“The Impact Catalyst is about changing the lives of the people of South Africa and creating an impact in industry and society. We are extremely delighted to be part of this initiative, which is at the heart of what the CSIR is about,” said Dr Dlamini, during his testimonial at the event.
The event was concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Anglo American, the CSIR, Exxaro, World Vision South Africa and the provincial government of Limpopo.
The Impact Catalyst invites you to engage in large-scale programmes that move the needle on key local sustainable development challenges in South Africa.
