Bergh holds an MEng degree in engineering management from the University of Pretoria. He joined the CSIR in 2010 and his role includes the management of laboratories and facilities that offer health and safety testing and training services to the mining and other industries. These include mechanical testing, testing and evaluation of products and systems that prevent and/or mitigate fires and explosions in mines, safety training of mine workers, analysis of air quality samples and testing of emergency respiratory devices used in mining.
